Danxia - Bird in a Cage

Warrington based dream-pop group Danxia take their name from the unique landscapes of southern and western China and it's a good fit for a group whose contemplative psychedelic guitar pop undulates gently before revealing more jagged forms. Taken from their second EP 'Learn to Swim' (31 March 2017) 'Bird in a cage' demonstrates the promising scope of Danxia's sound progressing from a trippy chilled opening to a very Warpaint like mix of shoegaze and art-rock.

False Advertising - Not My Fault

False Advertising have something of a knack for producing gnarly rumbling guitar rock. There's an undeniable 90's influence at work which is in parts grunge but also Alt-Rock akin to groups like The Breeders and Veruca Salt Their latest single 'Not My Fault' has a blistering frenetic start with Jen Hingley delivering the lyrics to the first verse as a rhythmic counter point to the pacing drums. There is a wonderful break at about 1:50 with gentle sizzling cymbals before the band jump back in with guitars set to fuzz.

Tara Carosielli - Holloway Road

Taken from her new EP 'I KNOW YOU HATE ME' (released today 28TH APRIL) Holloway Road is the new single from South London born pop artist Tara Carosielli. The stripped opening of this track showcases the best of Tara's voice with gentle finger picked guitar gradually drawing the listener in.

Duck - Lip on the Floor

Sheffield is arguably the ancestral home of British synthesizer music (having given the world groups like the The Human League and Heaven 17), I’d been doing some trawling online to see what the electronic scene is like in the steel city these days which led me to come across Duck. I think the best way I can describe Duck’s sound is “Lo-Fi-Electronic-Garage-Punk” (I know right) and if that hasn’t turned your head I dare say there’s a bit of a Noise-Pop influence at work too; Its equal parts fuzz and synth with guitarist/singer Sarah Griffiths boisterous vocals cutting over a cacophony of thumping drum machine powered scuzz. Check out ‘Lip on the Floor’ taken from Duck’s debut EP ‘sLaCk gOb’

Girlpool - It gets more blue

Girlpool are the kind of band I could listen to all day their songs beautiful if often bittersweet. The group have recently announced a new album 'Powerplant' due on May 12th via Anti- Records and revealed the track 'It gets more blue' the latest in a growing catalog of delicate wistful alt rock.

Suggested Friends - Chicken

I stumbled across Suggested Friends quite by accident and was so glad that I did. Suggested Friends make a fuzzed up lo-fi indie-pop with is heavy on big layered power ballad like chorus' it's a great combination; instantly gratifying perfect 'feel good' music.

Low key in their online presence midlands based band FABRIK are something of a mystery. Yet their steady trickle of releases is beginning to cause something of a ripple with early airplay from BBC 6 Music and It’s easy to see why. Take their forthcoming single ‘Animal’ (release date 05.05.17) opening with a clipping drone sample, reversed guitars and the immersive vocals of Hayley Trower; Animal quickly blossoms from a fairly experimental opening into a seductive art-pop banger. With an enticing mix of electronic elements and rich guitar textures (including the odd hint of psychedelica) FABRIK are a band worth getting excited about.

Well the spring is finally here in the UK and i'm already planning likely contenders for my personal summer playlist and Melbourne based electronic project SAATSUMA are definitely a contender. Released in March the groups latest single ISOLATE has a chilled vibe to begin with but gradually picks up. Listen out for the silky vocals and rich electronic instrumentation

Casey Dienel - High Times

I love music that can take me on a journey take the new single from pop songstress Casey Dienel 'High Times' - Opening with looped Baroque strings a mood is set instantly before a kicking hip-hop beat begins driving away... then unexpectedly the track gets pretty grimy before a drop into an interlude of tropical house percussion... more please!

Diet Cig - Tummy Ache

Crunch pop is definitely en vogue right now, with bands like Honeyblood & Mitski leading the charge in a new wave of edgy guitar rock typified by strong female protagonists. Diet Cig are a welcome addition to this vanguard, and their debut album "Swear I'm Good At This" (Released April 7) is loaded with fuzzy, irreverent and witty pop. Check out their single 'Tummy Ache'

Pip Hall - James

Pip Hall's Latest Single 'James' has been causing quite a stir with radio airplay from Radio X and BBC introducing. Opening with with some properly wonkey pitch shifting synth notes; Pip's voice blossoms as jangly guitars, sampled voices and synth pads slowly enter the mix. It's left-field, subtle and moving.

Rebekah Fitch - Another Show

Belfast born alt-pop songstress Rebekah Fitch has just released her new single 'Another Show'. Rich in hooks with subtle atmospheric elements beneath, there's a lot to take in, but it's Rebekah's stand out vocals which really drives this striking example of modern pop.

Gold Child - Me & You

Brooklyn's Gold Child have just uploaded their new single 'Me & You'. Don't be fooled by the unassuming MS paint artwork the track is anything but lof-fi, 'Me & You' is a wonderfully produced gem of a ballad with Emily Fehler's voice soaring above swaggering drums and mewling slide guitar

Useless Cities - New Feelings

New Feelings is the title track from London based fourpiece Useless Cities latest EP. At a brief but rewarding three and half minutes the track shimmers with a defined alternative/indie sound teeters on the brink of shoegaze. Theres a lot to love about New Feelings, most of all the equilibrium found in the tracks vocal parts with verses and choruses divided between members Tom and Conny

Tiny Arrows - The Antidote

The Antidote is the debut track from Barcelona/Dorset based dream pop duo Tiny Arrows. Initially teasing the listener with clean fingerpicked guitar and warm vocals “The Antidote” sets itself up a pop-leaning guitar ballad before unleashing a torrent of distortion which only builds as the song reaches its climax. The contrast of ‘The Antidote‘ is compelling and commendable for its boldness; a wonderful introduction to world of Tiny Arrows.

Anneka - Life Force

"I want more" says an alto voice echoed by sweet layer of soprano harmonies... London/Brighton based artist Anneka certainly knows how to draw a listener in. Minimalist at first, 'Life force' slowly builds from a mysterious atmospheric start into bouncing sawtooth synths, flirting with elements of darkwave before receding again. I can't wait to hear more.
